born in 1978 in Ried im Innkreis, Upper Austria, Alice Dittmar studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich from 1999 - 2006 and was conferred the title 'Meisterschülerin' by Professor Nikolaus Lang. Upon completing her studies, Alice participated in several international artist residencies, including: Red Gate Gallery, Beijing (CN), 2008 / 2012-13 and 2017; pilot projekt Düsseldorf (DE), 2009; Schieleartcentrum, Cesky Krumlov (CZ), 2010; Alexander Ochs Gallery, Beijing (CN), 2011 and Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA, 2017).
For a more than a decade, she would consider herself as a nomad, as N.Wölfing (Sinologist and art historian, Berlin) wrote “Contemporary nomadism is a much-referenced societal phenomenon that, especially in the world of the arts, refers to the wandering between cities, continents and time zones, whereby the ‘nomads’ always feel as though they are part of a certain group: the community of travelers, who keep on the move, the culture producers. Belonging to different group is desired and promotes one’s own individual plurality. Just after her studies in 2008, Alice began to incorporate this way of living into her own life and artistic work. She lived in Europe, China and Australia, before she settled in Berlin in 2019.
Up to now the her expanded travels play a vital part in work „Without my experience in China I couldn´t do the artwork I am doing now“ (Alice Dittmar, 2025)
Since Alice settled in Berlin, she mainly reworks photographic carriers into iridescent surfaces by the application of up to three full-area layers of ballpoint pen, for which multiple levels of reality play a role: 1st the real place/experience, 2nd the selection of a photographic motif, 3rd the drawing process and devotion to the chosen motif and 4th the presentation in the exhibition space and its reflection, including the movement of the visitors. All levels together form her works.
Since 2022 she is a member of Deutscher Künstlerbund and an active member of Kunstverein Frontviews e.V. in Berlin.
